Gear

This page is a rundown of all the gear I take to matches and practice, with some brief comments about what I like about them.

Gun: D2 Customs 2011 Middy Open gun

Allied Equipment

  • Holster: Double Alpha Alpha X
    • For the Cheely E2 Grip I use the SV Steel insert. The initial fit out of the box was good, Although I did some minor fitting to ensure a slightly smoother draw. Saul Kirsch did decent video on fitting the inserts that I found helpful. I’ll link the video here
    • I did replace the ball joint hanger from DAA, but now use the Henning T-1000. I feel that this is a vast improvement over the factory ball mount. This will aid in getting the gun slightly farther way from the belt. This has helped me get a slightly faster draw due to not worrying about getting my hand . I think this is a must have hanger for all platforms.

  • Additionally the Everglades MRH is another great option although it is only for 2011’s. These holsters can be very hard to find in stock. If you see then in stock you might want to jump on it.
  • Belt: Dominate Defense Mach 1 use code “mannytalks10” for 10%
    • I have also used a Ghost USA belt but found it didn’t support the weight of my gear very well. The Dominate Defense has just the right amount of give to be comfortable but firm. The real star of the belt is the ratchet. The ratchet helps keeps things secure yet not rely on the Velcro itself also and offers you the option to loosen it on the fly.

Magazines Holders

  • Mag Pouches: Henning T-900
    • The Henning pouches release very smoothly and quickly. They keep the mags in place when running very hard on a stage so don’t need to fear them falling off on their own.
    • I used the DAA XI prior to trying the Henning’s, these are great pouches and I would still be using them still if I didn’t switch.

  • Magnet: Divtec code mannytalksshooting for 10% off
    • These are a 3rd printed belt attachment that holds a neodymium rare earth magnet much like the magnets that Double Alpha uses with their products.
    • You will find that they have a a very smooth and quick release, these are great for table pick ups or unloaded starts.
    • I find that these are far superior to the DAA offering due to the coating on the magnets.

Ammo

  • 124gr FMP CMJ or 124gr Precision Delta JHP V2
    • Powders I’ve use are Vihtavuori 3N38 and Ramshot Silhouette.
    • Currently running Ramshot Silhouette
    • Other options that can be used are AA7, HS6, CFE Pistol, and Autocomp.

Video Equipment

  • Hat camera: Insta360 Go2
    • Very compact, the camera is very reliable. The audio quality is good, especially considering the size for the product. You can personalize the program settings to help aid capturing video very easy to get the high quality video you may require.
    • Hat mount: I’ve used both the Variant Innovations Heads up and the Range Panda Insta360 Go 2 hat clip. I find that both of these options are a great improvement over the OEM clip.
  • 3rd Person Camera: GoPro Black Hero 12
    • I use a GoPro Black Hero 12 on a 10 ft. selfie stick attached to my Zuca cart.
    • I would highly recommend getting a Go-Pro. You can get a high quality action camera that allows you to pair it with your phone to preview the shot before you shoot the stage.
